When Restaurants Don't Communicate
As many of my regular readers know, I like ordering in brunch/lunch at least one day on a weekend (though usually, it’s both). We usually use UberEats (since we have UberOne and get discounts) and most restaurants are typically great at leaving a space to leave notes about your order. One of the restaurants, Aroma Espresso Bar (which is a chain/franchise) somehow stopped doing so earlier this year. Since then, I had to call the restaurant to let them know that I did not want hard boiled eggs* sliced (there’s something weird tasting about egg yolks in hard boiled eggs that sometimes makes me gag).
Recently, however, I had trouble reaching them. I’m hoping that it’s a one time thing, that their phone lines were just not working or that they’re short staffed. I tried calling a few times and no one picked up at all. If their phones were working they must have thought I was really annoying and just refused to answer calls from my number. But the store may be having some issues - their toaster seems to have been broken for the past week!
The chain has national social media accounts, but not individual locations (that I know of). However, it would have been nice if whoever handles social media let people know that phone lines were not working at some stores. Or, better yet, they actually allow you to add notes about your order (this particular restaurant isn’t alone with this situation. I’ve had to call into salad places because I didn’t want dressing in my salad. I much prefer my own stuff (i.e. hummus or Greek yogurt (or both) and vinegar). Restaurants, like other places, are supposed to be as accommodating as they can, right? So why not allow for notes? Especially if it’s just a fast casual place? If you can add items to a salad/create your own bowl, you should very well be able to say you don’t want salad dressing.
Have you ever had to deal with this? I mean, for the egg situation (OR salad dressing, for that matter), it’s not really a big deal. In fact, it’s less work for the staff!
